Women are a fundamental human reservoir of every sector, especially a creative one like ours, fashion. They make up to 70% of the workforce in the industry so we thought it appropriate to shine some light on women who inspire us and the significant changes they are making in the Nigerian fashion industry.
Reni Folawiyo
A lawyer turned businesswoman, Reni is the founder of the Africa luxury Concept store, Alara. Located at the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos. Alara has bridged the gap for Nigerians who look abroad to shop for luxury fashion items. They stock several African designers such as Maki Oh and Kenneth Ize as well as international luxury brands like Stella McCartney, Roksanda Ilincic and Molly Goddard. Reni is a force and cannot be omitted from the list of women who are changing the narrative of the Nigerian fashion industry.
Bisola Adeniyi
The Nigerian based fashion designer is the force behind Lady Biba, one of the most sought after ready to wear fashion brands in Nigeria. Lady Biba produces out of the box designs for women who work in corporate environments and want to make a statement with their fashion. Her designs can easily be identified in the wardrobe of a working-class women as a staple. She has dressed top personalities both here in Nigeria and internationally.
Ink Balogun
Ink is the founder of AsoEbiBella.com, a platform dedicated to celebrating African traditional fashion trends. She was BellaNaija ‘s weddings editor until January 2017, after which, she started her own business. The Asoebibella platform inspires thousands of women's fashion decisions by showing them trending styles in line with their events. They are an influencing force in the Nigerian fashion industry.
Uche Pedro
Uche is the founder of Nigeria's premier celebrity and fashion website, 'Bella Naija'. The platform features weddings, fashion and lifestyle. Their content is very much ascertained and verified which has allowed the platform to gain its place as an authoritative resource. She has changed the face of fashion blogging and inspired many Nigerian youths.
